The Manipur government has imposed a total curfew in Tengnoupal district

The Manipur government imposed a total curfew in the Tengnoupal district bordering Myanmar on Tuesday (16 January), citing an uproar and a potential threat to the joint security forces’ peace-building efforts in the border town of Moreh.

A prohibitory order was issued by the District Magistrate under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, restricting the movement of any person outside their separate dwellings.

According to an official order, there is a risk of a breach of peace, disturbance of public tranquility, and serious threat to human lives and property within the revenue jurisdiction of Tengnoupal district, prompting the imposition of a total curfew beginning at midnight on 16 January 2024.
