In a significant move reflecting heightened tensions in the Middle East, the United States (U.S.) is deploying a guided missile submarine to the region and expediting the arrival of the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group amid fears of retaliatory attacks from Iran and its proxies.

This escalation follows the assassination of senior members of Hamas and Hezbollah, which has put Israel on high alert. The U.S. Defense Department confirmed late on Tuesday (13 August) that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had ordered the deployment of the USS Georgia submarine and accelerated the carrier group’s transit.
