The Met Office has issued two yellow weather warnings for heavy rainfall expected to affect west Wales over the next few days. Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, and Ceredigion are all predicted to experience significant rain, beginning with scattered heavy showers overnight on Wednesday (04 September), followed by more intense rainfall on Thursday (05 September) and continuing into Friday (06 September).

The first yellow weather warning is in effect from 9:00 p.m. (local time) on Wednesday (04 September) until 11:45 p.m. (local time) on Thursday (05 September). During this period, scattered heavy showers are expected, with more persistent heavy rain occurring overnight and throughout Thursday (05 September).

Within the initial hours, rainfall could reach 20 to 40mm, with some locations potentially seeing 50 to 60mm and up to 80 to 100mm later in the day. The Met Office has warned that these conditions could lead to hazardous driving, road closures, and potential disruptions to train and bus services. The public is advised to check road conditions and transport schedules in advance.

On Friday (06 September), a second yellow weather warning for rain was issued, covering the entire day. Continued heavy rainfall is expected, with most areas receiving between 15 to 30mm, while wetter regions could see 40 to 60mm and rare instances might reach 75 to 100mm. This could result in power cuts for homes and businesses, a small chance of flooding, and the possibility of some communities being cut off due to flooded roads.

The Met Office has advised residents to prepare for potential power outages by gathering essentials such as torches, batteries, and mobile phone power packs. For those in flood-prone areas, preparing a flood plan and emergency kit is recommended in case of an emergency. According to the Met Office’s forecast, heavy rainfall is likely to persist over the weekend.
