Suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched a fresh attack on Buni Yadi town, Yobe State, targeting key areas, including a vigilante camp and a government lodge. The attack took place just days after terrorists had murdered at least 34 people in the region.
The insurgents reportedly entered the town on foot and set parts of the government lodge and vehicles from a local bread factory on fire.
Vigilante members and special forces engaged the attackers, forcing them to flee after a period of destruction. Despite their efforts, the insurgents managed to burn down sections of the lodge, a vigilante camp, and two vehicles from Annour Bread Factory. One vigilante was injured during the encounter.
Before the attack, security operatives patrolling the area warned residents to leave the streets, having received information about the impending threat. The insurgents believed to be hiding not far from the town, could carry out their violent mission despite these precautions.
Yobe State Police and military officials confirmed the attack, acknowledging that although the terrorists initially gained ground, the troops eventually foiled their plans. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as tensions remain high in the region.
