According to the reports on Thursday (12 June), An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The aircraft was headed for London and went down in the Meghani area of the city, leading to a massive explosion and thick plumes of black smoke. The crash occurred shortly after departure, prompting an immediate emergency response from local authorities.
The wide-body aircraft had a capacity of around 300 passengers and was carrying 290 people at the time of the incident. Since it was fueled for a long-haul international journey, the resulting fire and explosion were particularly intense. Fire engines and ambulances were rapidly dispatched to the site to conduct rescue operations and contain the blaze.
As of now, there is no official confirmation regarding casualties. Rescue efforts are ongoing, but the severity of the fire is believed to have complicated these operations. Emergency personnel continue to search the wreckage, and hospitals nearby are reportedly on alert to receive potential victims.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is expected to launch a formal investigation into the crash. Boeing may also send a technical team to assist. While the exact cause remains unknown, aviation experts suggest that the large amount of fuel on board may have worsened the post-crash fire, making both firefighting and rescue efforts more challenging.
