In a deadly confrontation on Wednesday (14 August), an Army captain was killed during a gunfight between security forces and unidentified terrorists in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The encounter erupted in a densely forested area as part of a cordon and search operation (CASO) launched by a joint team to locate terrorists hiding in the Shivgarh-Assar belt of Doda’s Assar area.
The operation, identified as Op Assar, began around 6 pm (local time) on Tuesday (13 August) when security forces established contact with the terrorists near Patnitop in the adjacent Udhampur district. The initial exchange of fire led to a prolonged clash that continued intermittently until both sides paused, with a cordon set up overnight.
During the encounter, security forces recovered an M4 rifle, clothing, and three rucksacks from the area. Sources report that four blood-soaked rucksacks were found, suggesting that four terrorists may have been injured. The terrorists are believed to have crossed into Doda from a nearby forest in Udhampur. The operation remains ongoing as forces continue to search for the remaining terrorists.
