Greece has initiated a large evacuation operation to assist thousands of residents and visitors fleeing the Greek island of Rhodes following massive wildfires.
According to accounts, a large wildfire scorched the Greek island of Rhodes, forcing hundreds of tourists to flee their hotels, while those caught in the flames were subjected to chaotic and horrifying scenes.
In addition, several others were compelled to flee on foot or by other means after being told to do so.
According to reports, a wildfire has been raging in the center and southern districts of Rhodes, a famous tourist destination.
It is the largest of several fires that have erupted in Greece as a result of the heat wave, and experts believe that it may end up being the nation’s longest on record.
According to the local fire brigade, the fire is currently raging in the surrounding Kiotari and Lardos, not far from the Lindos archaeological site. As of right now, the site has not been decimated.
Schools, hotels, sports facilities, and conference centers have been built in secure regions of the island to house evacuees in need.
Aside from the Rhodes Islands, there have been reports of wildfires on Greece’s second-largest island, Evia, and Corfu, both of which are popular with international tourists.
Six coastguard vessels and seven private boats have already rescued 59 people off the beach at Nissaki Beach in the northeastern part of the island.
