According to the reports on Monday (2 June), Russian and Ukrainian delegations are preparing to meet in Turkiye’s largest city to hold ceasefire talks. This diplomatic effort comes at a tense moment in the conflict, following a dramatic escalation in hostilities.
Just a day before the planned talks, Ukraine launched an unprecedented wave of drone attacks targeting airbases deep within Russian territory. According to Russia’s Defence Ministry, airbases in five different regions were hit, signaling a significant reach by Ukrainian forces.
Among the affected locations were the Murmansk and Irkutsk regions, where several Russian fighter jets reportedly caught fire due to the drone strikes. The attacks mark one of the boldest Ukrainian operations to date, aiming at critical military infrastructure.
Despite the scale of the assault, Russia claimed that some of the attacks were successfully repelled and confirmed that there were no casualties. The timing of the strikes and the subsequent talks raise questions about their potential impact on negotiations.
