According to the reports on Monday (2 December), Cyclone Fengal caused widespread damage in Tamil Nadu on Sunday (1 December), bringing heavy rainfall that resulted in the deaths of three people, including two children. The victims were caught in separate incidents triggered by the rains. A four-year-old boy, Lokesh P from Chengam taluk, drowned after attempting to cross a water stream early in the morning. In another incident, a two-year-old boy, M Pradeep, fell into a water channel at Ilupparunam Lake while relieving himself and tragically drowned. A 50-year-old man, M Sadasivam, was electrocuted when he attempted to open a wet iron gate, unaware that a live wire was in contact with it.

The heavy rains caused by Cyclone Fengal led to severe flooding in various parts of the region. Major roads, including Mada Veeedi, Durgai Amman Kovil Street, and Gandhi Nagar, were submerged in neck-deep waters. Additionally, the Kali Amman temple, located along the Girivalam route, experienced knee-deep flooding. The continuous downpour also caused a road in Paliyampattu village to collapse, further disrupting local transportation.

Tiruvannamalai district, in particular, received 142.48 mm of rainfall on Sunday, contributing to the widespread flooding. The region experienced the full force of Cyclone Fengal, which passed over Tiruvannamalai at around 5:30 pm. The cyclone brought torrential rains, leading to difficult conditions for residents and substantial damage to infrastructure. Local authorities and residents were left grappling with the heavy rains and flooding aftermath.

Meteorologist R Pradeep John, known as Tamil Nadu Weatherman, confirmed the cyclone’s movement towards other areas, including Dharmapuri, Tirupattur, and Krishnagiri. As the cyclone continued to move across the state, these districts were expected to receive similar heavy rains. The region remains highly alert, with officials warning of further risks associated with the ongoing weather conditions.
