According to the reports on Wednesday (20 November), The weather is expected to worsen in the coming days, as the Meteorological Department issues a heavy rain warning for some states. Additionally, signs of a new cyclone forming in the Bay of Bengal have emerged. This system is projected to follow a different track and impact than previous cyclones along the Indian coastline.
According to the IMD, the cyclone will likely originate in the Andaman Sea near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Thursday (21 November). The system may intensify between Friday (22 November) and Saturday (23 November), forming a low-pressure area that could develop into a depression by November 23. This process is expected to lead to the formation of a cyclonic storm in subsequent days.
The IMD predicts the cyclone will strengthen as it moves westward and northwestward before landfall over northern Sri Lanka on Tuesday (26 November) or Wednesday (27 November). However, the exact trajectory and intensity of the cyclone remain uncertain at this early stage. The department emphasizes that ongoing monitoring is crucial for more accurate predictions.
Historically, cyclones formed over the Bay of Bengal in November often head toward North Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal, with Bangladesh also affected. If this system intensifies into a cyclone, it will be the second one of the season. Meteorologists are closely watching the speed and behavior of the system to assess its development.
