According to the reports on Friday (21 February), three buses exploded in Bat Yam, south of Tel Aviv, in what Israeli police suspect to be a terror attack. Two additional explosive devices were found on other buses but failed to detonate. Large police forces were deployed to the scenes to search for suspects and any remaining threats. No casualties have been reported so far, though footage showed at least one bus engulfed in flames.
In response to the explosions, Transport Minister Miri Regev ordered the suspension of all buses, trains, and light rail services nationwide to allow for security checks. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a security meeting and instructed the Israeli military to launch an intensive operation against terrorist centers in the West Bank. Additionally, police and security agencies were ordered to increase preventative measures to avert further attacks in Israeli cities.
Israeli authorities believe Palestinian terrorist groups may be responsible for the attacks, as one unexploded device carried a message referencing “Revenge from Tulkarem,” linked to a recent Israeli military operation in the West Bank. Security forces, including bomb disposal units, are continuing to search for additional explosives and possible suspects. The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects.
As a precaution, bus drivers across Israel have been instructed to inspect their vehicles for potential explosive devices. Meanwhile, Bat Yam Mayor Tzvika Brot reassured residents that no injuries had been reported. The heightened security measures reflect growing concerns over further attacks, prompting Israeli leaders to escalate counterterrorism efforts in both the West Bank and major cities.
