According to the reports on Thursday (19 December), security forces eliminated five terrorists in a joint operation in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. The operation, conducted by the Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police, began with a cordon-and-search effort in the Behibagh area following intelligence inputs. It escalated into a gunfight when the terrorists opened fire, injuring two security personnel. The forces retaliated effectively, neutralizing all threats.
The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps highlighted the vigilance of the troops during the operation. Suspicious activity was observed at Kadder in the district, leading to a heavy exchange of fire. This encounter follows recent incidents of heightened militant activity in the region, emphasizing the continued security challenges faced by the area.
Earlier in December, security forces killed a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist responsible for an October attack in Gagangeer. That attack resulted in the deaths of seven unarmed workers involved in a tunnel construction project, marking one of the deadliest civilian attacks in recent months. The ongoing operations reflect the security forces’ commitment to eliminating terrorism in the region.
November also saw a series of counter-terrorism efforts, including the busting of a terror hideout in Baramulla and a joint operation in Rajpura, Sopore. These initiatives underscore the proactive measures taken by security forces to address the persistent threat posed by terrorist groups in Jammu and Kashmir.
