According to the reports on Wednesday (29 October), following the collapse of the Gaza ceasefire on Tuesday (28 October), Israeli forces launched intense overnight airstrikes across multiple regions of the Gaza Strip, killing over 100 Palestinians, including 35 children. Residential buildings, tents for displaced families, and shelters were struck in areas such as Gaza City, Khan Younis, Deir al-Balah, and Rafah. The Palestinian Civil Defense urgently called for an immediate halt to hostilities and the establishment of humanitarian corridors to deliver essential medical and rescue supplies. Hospitals reported being overwhelmed, with many victims still trapped under the rubble.
Medical authorities confirmed dozens of deaths in targeted areas, including entire families wiped out. In one of the deadliest single attacks, 18 members of the Abu Dalal family were killed in Nuseirat Camp, among them young children and infants. Similar tragedies were reported in Deir al-Balah, Khan Younis, and Beit Lahia, where airstrikes hit tents sheltering displaced persons. Reports indicated that Israeli naval and ground forces also continued shelling coastal and agricultural areas, worsening the humanitarian crisis.
The total death toll in Gaza since October 7, 2023, has risen to over 68,500, with more than 170,000 injured. Many bodies have been recovered in mutilated conditions, and hundreds remain missing beneath the debris. The International Court of Justice has repeatedly urged Israel to allow aid into Gaza and end its occupation, calling the situation unlawful. However, continued bombardments have made rescue and relief operations nearly impossible for emergency teams.
UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese condemned Israel’s renewed attacks, blaming the inaction of UN member states for allowing the violence to persist. She stated that international silence enables what she described as ongoing genocide against Palestinians, both in Gaza and the West Bank. Despite Israeli claims that the bombings were retaliation for the death of a soldier in Rafah, evidence suggests the fatality may have resulted from Israel’s own unexploded ordnance. As the bombardment continues, Gaza faces one of its darkest humanitarian catastrophes in recent memory.
