The government has warned about the “Akira” Internet ransomware, which steals crucial information and encrypts data, perhaps leading to extortion.
The government’s technology arm, CERT-In, issued an advisory on “Akira,” a computer malware that targets Windows and Linux-based computers.
It claims to take data and then encrypt it on its systems. Once this is done, the virus does double extortion, requiring the victim to pay the ransom. “If the victim does not pay, they release their victim’s data on their dark web blog,” according to the caution.
To prevent such assaults, CERT-In recommends that Internet users practice fundamental online hygiene and security procedures.
