According to the reports on Tuesday (1 April), a fierce gunfight erupted late Monday night (31 March, local time) in the Ramkot area of Billawar, Kathua district, as security forces engaged militants suspected to be from Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM). One militant was killed, and another was injured during the encounter, which involved police, CRPF personnel, and later, the Army’s special forces. Security forces have cordoned off the area to prevent any escape as operations continue.
This was the third major encounter in Kathua district within a few days, highlighting a surge in militant activity. The first clash occurred in Sanyal village of Hiranagar, where five militants attempted to kidnap a local couple, but their escape led security forces to a gunfight, killing two militants while three fled. The second encounter took place in Juthana under Rajbagh Police Station, where two more militants were eliminated, though intelligence suggests others may still be in hiding.
Following these encounters, security forces have heightened surveillance and search operations across Kathua and nearby regions. Late last night, three militants were spotted in Jain Tirth, Ramkot, leading to another exchange of gunfire. Authorities believe multiple militant groups have infiltrated from across the border, increasing the risk of further attacks. Security has been tightened along key highways connecting Billawar, Jammu, and Kathua.
In response, law enforcement has arrested several individuals suspected of aiding militant movements through infiltration routes. With the ongoing search operations in Billawar, security forces remain on high alert to prevent further infiltration and ensure the safety of residents.
