According to the reports on Tuesday (6 May), a senior Hamas official, Basem Naim, announced on Tuesday (6 May) that the group is no longer willing to engage in truce or ceasefire negotiations with Israel. He urged the international community to act against what he called Israel’s “hunger war” and “extermination war” in Gaza. Naim emphasized that continued talks are pointless as long as the Israeli military operations persist under such devastating humanitarian conditions.

Israel recently approved an expanded military campaign in Gaza, which reportedly includes plans to displace most of the territory’s population. This decision has intensified concerns among international organizations and governments, who fear a worsening humanitarian disaster. The military stated the evacuation aims to protect civilians, yet critics view it as forced displacement reminiscent of the 1948 Nakba.

Since Israel resumed its offensive on March 18 following a two-month truce, the situation in Gaza has deteriorated rapidly. Nearly the entire population has been displaced, many multiple times, and famine conditions are looming under a total blockade enforced since early March. The Palestinian health ministry reports over 2,400 deaths since March 18, with the war’s total death toll now exceeding 52,000.

International condemnation of Israel’s actions has grown. UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed alarm over the planned offensive, warning it would cause further civilian casualties and destruction. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot labeled the military strategy “unacceptable” and a violation of humanitarian law. Meanwhile, Hamas remains firm in its position, holding Israel fully responsible for the crisis in Gaza.
