The Met Office has updated its yellow weather warning for heavy rain, effective from 8 am (local time) on Monday (30 September) until 3 am (local time) on Tuesday (1 October). The warning covers areas of the northeast Midlands and northeast England, where an area of rain, heavy at times, will pass through. This weather system is expected to persist through the day before clearing overnight.

There is significant uncertainty regarding the exact amount of rainfall and the locations that will experience the heaviest downpours. Forecasts suggest that most areas will receive between 20-40 mm of rain, but isolated areas could see as much as 60-80 mm. Along with the heavy rain, strong northeasterly winds are expected, which could cause further disruptions.

The Met Office has advised residents to check if their property is at risk of flooding and to prepare by creating a flood plan and assembling an emergency flood kit. Those living in flood-prone areas should remain alert and take necessary precautions to protect their homes and belongings in case of rising water levels.

Travelers are also encouraged to check road conditions and public transport schedules, making adjustments to travel plans if needed. As weather conditions can change rapidly, the Met Office recommends that people stay updated on forecasts throughout the day and be prepared for sudden changes in the weather warning.
