Flood alerts remain in effect across England as heavy rain and thunderstorms continue to cause disruption. On Wednesday morning (9 October), 79 alerts were in place, signaling potential flooding, while 11 locations faced flood warnings where flooding was expected, including two areas in Bristol. This comes after a weather warning for thunderstorms in southern England ended earlier in the day.
Several rivers, including the River Anker in Warwickshire and the River Blackwater near Southampton, have seen updated flood warnings. Additional warnings were issued for Gog Brook in Warwick, Bunches Brook in Worcestershire, and low-lying properties near the River Brue in Somerset. The Met Office predicts showery rain will push into eastern parts of England, although sunny spells may develop in the south.
Severe flooding has already impacted parts of Northumberland, with roads closed and emergency services responding to the situation. Blyth and Ashington MP Ian Lavery reported numerous calls about flooding in southeast Northumberland. Local officials have been working with fire and rescue services, power companies, and water authorities to manage the crisis.
In Somerset, the M5 was temporarily closed on Tuesday afternoon due to flooding caused by heavy rainfall. The continued bad weather has resulted in travel disruptions, road closures, and emergency responses across affected areas, with authorities closely monitoring the situation.
