According to the reports on Wednesday (16 October), Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka have been experiencing heavy rainfall over the past two days due to a drop in pressure in the Bay of Bengal. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for 12 districts, including Bengaluru, with warnings of continued heavy rain until Sunday (20 October). This alert signifies potential risks of flooding and disruption in these regions.
The districts under the orange alert are Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore City, Chikkaballapur, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kolar, Mandya, Ramanagara, Shimoga, and Tumkur. These areas are expected to see intense rainfall, which could cause waterlogging, traffic delays, and possible damage to infrastructure. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during this period.
In addition to the orange alert, a yellow alert has been declared in districts such as Vijayanagar, Mysore, Kodagu, Davangere, and others. The yellow alert indicates moderate rainfall, which could still pose challenges but is less severe than the areas under the orange alert. People in these regions are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
Other parts of Karnataka, including Yadgiri, Vijayapura, Raichur, and Koppal, are also expected to receive rainfall, though with lower intensity. Several towns such as Panambur, Chikkodi, Ramanagara, and Shimoga have already reported rainfall, with more expected in the coming days. Residents across the state are advised to prepare for the continued wet weather.
