Hezbollah appears increasingly likely to launch an attack on Israel in the coming days, moving ahead of Iran in its planning. The Lebanon-based militant group is responding to the killing of its top military commander, Fu’ad Shukr, by Israel last week. Additionally, Israel is widely believed to have assassinated Hamas’ political leader in Tehran the following day, though Israel has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement.
Given Lebanon’s proximity to Israel, Hezbollah could act with little warning. While Iran seems to be deliberating its response, Hezbollah’s actions are expected sooner, raising concerns about imminent conflict. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) convened an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday (07 August) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, at the level of foreign ministers to address the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The meeting resulted in a draft final communiqué condemning Israel’s actions and reaffirming support for the Palestinian cause.
As tensions escalate, the situation remains volatile, with both regional and international implications depending on how events unfold in the coming days.
