According to the reports on Monday (3 March), an Indian man, Thomas Gabriel Perera, was allegedly shot and killed by Jordanian soldiers while attempting to cross into Israel illegally. The incident occurred on Monday (10 February) when Perera, a 47-year-old from Thumba in Kerala, was in Jordan on a visitor visa. Sources reported that he tried to enter Israel, and during this attempt, he was shot by Jordanian forces.
Perera’s relative, Edison, who was with him during the attempt, was also shot but survived the ordeal. After receiving medical treatment, Edison was repatriated to India. The incident highlights the tense situation in the region amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict and increasing violence in the West Bank.
The Indian Embassy in Jordan issued a statement expressing condolences over the death of the Indian national. It confirmed that they are in contact with Perera’s family and are working with Jordanian authorities to arrange for the transportation of his mortal remains back to India.
This tragic event occurred against the backdrop of heightened tensions in the region, particularly with the ongoing violence in the West Bank. The Indian government is coordinating with the authorities to ensure the proper handling of the situation and provide support to the affected family.
