According to the reports on Friday (30 May), a U.S.-drafted proposal for a Gaza ceasefire outlines a 60-day truce between Israel and Hamas, with the release of 28 Israeli captives (both living and deceased) by Hamas in exchange for 1,236 Palestinian prisoners and 180 remains in the first week. The deal is backed and guaranteed by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar, and includes provisions for immediate humanitarian aid to Gaza through the United Nations and Red Crescent.

The White House confirmed that Israel has accepted the proposal, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly informing the families of Israeli hostages about the deal. The plan includes a phased halt to Israeli military operations and a withdrawal of troops, while Hamas is expected to release the remaining 30 captives once a permanent ceasefire begins. The agreement signals a significant step toward ending the ongoing conflict.

Hamas has acknowledged receiving the proposal and is currently reviewing the terms. Senior Hamas official Bassem Naim expressed skepticism, stating the draft appears to perpetuate Israeli occupation and fails to meet Palestinian demands for ending the war and famine. Despite these reservations, Hamas has committed to a thorough and responsible review before issuing a formal response by Friday or Saturday.

U.S. officials have voiced cautious optimism about the potential for progress. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that the proposal is supported by Israel, and U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff expressed hope earlier in the week for an agreement that would end hostilities and ensure the repatriation of hostages. The situation remains fluid as Hamas deliberates on the next steps.
