Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on Thursday morning (29 May, local time) resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians. Among the victims were seven people killed in a home north of Gaza, a man and his pregnant wife in Khan Younis, and several others injured near an aid distribution center. A 13-year-old boy was also killed in Deir al-Balah when a tent sheltering displaced civilians was struck.
In another deadly strike, at least 19 people lost their lives when the Israeli military targeted a home east of the Al-Bureij refugee camp. These attacks are part of Israel’s ongoing military offensive on the Gaza Strip, which has caused widespread devastation and civilian casualties.
Meanwhile, Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich made a major announcement regarding the expansion of Israeli settlements. He revealed the approval of 22 new settlements in the occupied West Bank, an area internationally recognized as occupied territory since 1967.
Smotrich described the move as a “historic decision” and said it would renew settlement activity in northern Samaria and reinforce Israel’s eastern axis. These settlements are considered illegal under international law and are likely to intensify tensions and draw global criticism.
