According to the reports on Friday (1 August), a massive Russian missile strike on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, on the night of Thursday (31 July) has resulted in the deaths of at least 31 people. The attack heavily damaged multiple buildings in the Sviatoshynskyi district, prompting extensive rescue and recovery operations. As of Friday (1 August), emergency workers have been able to clear 70% of the destroyed structures in the affected area.
The head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Timur Tkachenko, confirmed the updated death toll and said that search operations continued throughout the night and into the next morning. Rescuers have managed to recover three more bodies from the debris in the hardest-hit district. The total number of fatalities may still rise as recovery work progresses.
In addition to the fatalities, the State Emergency Service reported that 159 people sustained injuries during the missile attack. Among those injured were 16 children, further highlighting the severity and human cost of the strike. Medical teams and emergency responders are continuing to treat the wounded while ensuring the safety of the area.
Efforts remain focused on clearing rubble and locating potential survivors or additional victims trapped underneath. The Thursday (31 July) strike is one of the deadliest assaults on Kyiv in recent months, causing widespread destruction and heightening concerns over continued Russian attacks on civilian areas. Authorities remain on high alert as the situation develops.
