According to the reports on Wednesday (15 October), Intense fighting broke out once again on Tuesday night (14 October, local time), between Pakistani security forces and the Afghan Taliban along the border in Kurram district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to state media reports, the clash began when the Afghan Taliban and militants referred to as “Fitna al-Khawarij” opened unprovoked fire. The Pakistani Army responded with full force, leading to the destruction of multiple Taliban posts and tanks. Reports indicated that the Taliban fighters fled their positions following the heavy exchange of fire.

Further updates from Pakistan’s state broadcaster confirmed that additional Taliban positions were targeted, resulting in the destruction of more posts and tanks, including one at Shamsadar post. The Pakistani Foreign Office later briefed resident ambassadors in Islamabad, outlining the recent developments and emphasizing the country’s right to defend its borders. Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding its territorial integrity and national security amid rising border tensions.

The latest clash followed an earlier attack over the weekend, in which Afghan Taliban forces allegedly launched an unprovoked assault on Pakistani border posts, killing 23 Pakistani soldiers. Pakistan’s military responded with major counterstrikes, reportedly killing over 200 Taliban fighters and allied militants. Kabul, however, described its actions as “retaliatory,” claiming Pakistan had conducted air strikes inside Afghan territory prior to the incident.

Islamabad has not confirmed conducting air strikes but maintained its demand that the Taliban government stop providing shelter to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Pakistani officials have repeatedly accused Afghanistan of allowing militants to use its territory for cross-border attacks. Kabul has denied these allegations, asserting that Afghan soil is not being used against any neighboring country, deepening the ongoing diplomatic strain between the two nations.
