According to the reports on Tuesday (11 March), Russia reported that its air defenses shot down 337 Ukrainian drones overnight (local time) in what appears to be the largest drone attack on Russian territory in three years. The drones targeted 10 regions, with the highest numbers intercepted over Kursk and Moscow. Ukrainian officials have not commented on the attack, which coincided with a Ukrainian delegation’s meeting with U.S. officials in Saudi Arabia to discuss ending the war.
The Moscow region saw 91 drones intercepted, and over 70 drones targeted the Russian capital itself. One person was killed, and three others were injured in the Moscow region, where several apartments were damaged. Vehicles in a parking lot were set on fire, and a building roof in Moscow sustained minor damage. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and regional governor Andrei Vorobyov confirmed the casualties and destruction.
The attack led to significant disruptions in transportation, with flights restricted at six major airports, including Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, and Vnukovo. Train services at Domodedovo railway station were briefly halted. Authorities in Tula and Vladimir regions also reported intercepting drones, though they were not mentioned in the Russian Defense Ministry’s official statement.
Other affected regions included Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol, and Ryazan. Kyiv’s forces control parts of Kursk, which saw the highest number of drones shot down at 126. The scale of the attack highlights Ukraine’s increasing use of drone warfare, intensifying the ongoing conflict between the two nations.
