According to the reports on Wednesday (5 February), a fierce exchange of attacks between Russia and Ukraine continues across the border. On Tuesday (4 February), Russia launched a missile strike on Izium in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, killing five people and injuring 50, including three children. The attack damaged residential buildings and the Izium City Council’s administrative offices.
Ukrainian officials reported that Russia used short-range Iskander ballistic missiles in the strike. In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, calling for maximum pressure on Russia through military force, sanctions, and diplomacy. He emphasized the need to stop Russian aggression and protect civilian lives.
Ukraine retaliated by targeting key energy facilities in southern Russia. On Monday (3 February), Ukrainian forces struck an oil refinery in the Volgograd region and a gas processing plant in the Astrakhan region. Local authorities confirmed that fires broke out at both sites, with footage showing flames raging at the Astrakhan facility.
Since last month, Ukraine has ramped up attacks on strategic fuel supply points for Russia’s military. These strikes aim to disrupt Russia’s war capabilities by cutting off essential resources. As the conflict escalates, both sides continue to trade heavy attacks, increasing tensions in the region.
