According to the reports on Tuesday (4 March), the United States has paused all military aid to Ukraine following a tense exchange between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. The decision, confirmed by a White House official, comes as Trump seeks assurances that Zelensky is committed to pursuing a peace deal to end the war. The official emphasized that the aid is under review to ensure it contributes to a long-term solution.
Trump’s frustration with Zelensky grew after the Ukrainian leader stated that Russia’s war against Ukraine is still “very, very far away” from ending. Reacting on his social media platform, Trump called Zelensky’s remarks the “worst statement that could have been made” and warned that America would not tolerate the situation much longer. This public clash highlights a deepening divide between the two leaders over the direction of US support for Ukraine.
The dispute also coincides with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s call for strong US backing in securing a peace deal for Ukraine. Starmer, who recently hosted a European leaders’ summit, insisted that Europe must lead efforts to achieve peace but stressed that American involvement remains crucial. Trump’s administration, however, appears focused on reassessing its commitments, adding further uncertainty to US-Ukraine relations.
While Trump officials insist the pause in military aid is temporary, it raises concerns over Ukraine’s ability to sustain its war efforts. Military planners estimate that Ukraine has enough supplies to continue fighting at current levels only until the summer. The freeze marks the most serious sign yet of a rift in the US-Ukraine alliance, leaving Kyiv in a precarious position as it fights against Russian forces.
