A Russian nighttime attack on the city of Kyiv on Wednesday (22 October) resulted in the deaths of two people and left one woman injured. The assault caused widespread panic among residents as explosions and falling debris struck several parts of the Ukrainian capital during the night.
According to Tymur Tkachenko, Head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, one person was killed in the Dniprovskyi district when debris ignited a fire in a residential building. Flames spread to the seventh and eighth floors before being brought under control by firefighters, preventing further casualties.
Later in the morning, authorities confirmed a second fatality in another part of the city, underscoring the intensity and danger of the overnight attack. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko also reported that debris had hit a non-residential building in the Darnytskyi district, injuring a woman who received immediate treatment at the scene.
Background reports revealed that debris from the attack also struck residential areas in the Desnianskyi and Pecherskyi districts, sparking additional fires and damaging buildings. Emergency services worked through the night to extinguish the flames and secure affected sites, as Kyiv once again faced the deadly consequences of ongoing Russian aerial assaults.
