The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning expected across Telangana on September 20 and 21. The warning indicates that various districts will experience thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls over the next two days, with Hyderabad likely to see a cloudy sky and light rainfall until September 20.

The current Southwest monsoon has brought significant rainfall to Telangana, with the region recording an average of 898.1 mm of rain, surpassing the normal 668.6 mm by 34 percent. Hyderabad has received 703.6 mm of rainfall compared to the normal 548.8 mm, showing a 28 percent deviation.

In Hyderabad, the area of Nampally has experienced an even higher increase in rainfall, recording 809.6 mm compared to the normal 543.3 mm, which is a 49 percent increase. This excess rainfall has contributed to the overall rise in precipitation during the current monsoon season.

As thunderstorms are forecasted for the next two days, it is anticipated that the total rainfall for the monsoon season will continue to increase. The IMD’s alert underscores the need for residents to stay informed and prepared for the upcoming weather conditions.
