According to a Wall Street Journal report, US intelligence assessed that Israel is considering a strike this year, believing American assistance would be necessary to penetrate Iran’s deeply buried nuclear facilities. Similar intelligence conclusions were made during the early weeks of Trump’s first administration.
Israeli officials fear the window to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons is closing, prompting discussions on military action. US military officials acknowledge that Israel would require American military support and equipment to carry out a successful attack on Iran’s heavily fortified nuclear sites. The assessment suggests that Israeli bombs alone may not be sufficient to destroy these facilities.
