Two new COVID-19 mutations have been discovered in Tamil Nadu

Scientists at the Tamil Nadu Public Health laboratory’s whole genome sequencing lab discovered two new XBB Omicron mutations.

While new COVID-19 variations such as Eris and Pirola are being reported from other parts of the world, Omicron and its derivatives continue to dominate in Tamil Nadu.

While the variation impacted both male and female populations approximately equally, instances were more common among adults aged 31 to 50.

Though the COVID-19 situation has improved greatly, people are still advised to follow COVID-19 safety protocols.
