Ukraine carried out drone attacks targeting Moscow for the second consecutive night, according to statements from the Russian defense ministry and Moscow’s mayor on Tuesday (28 October). The escalation marks a continuation of Kyiv’s attempts to strike deep within Russian territory, intensifying pressure on Moscow’s defenses.
Russia’s defense ministry reported that its air defense units intercepted and destroyed 17 Ukrainian drones overnight. Of these, one was heading toward Moscow, 13 were shot down over the Kaluga region bordering the capital, and the remaining three were neutralized over the Bryansk region near the Ukrainian border.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that emergency services were deployed to the crash site of the drone targeting Moscow. Although no significant damage was reported, Russian authorities often withhold detailed information about such incidents unless civilian casualties or infrastructure are directly affected.
Bryansk regional governor Alexander Bogomaz stated that one civilian was hospitalized following the overnight attacks. The incident follows Monday’s announcement by Russia that 34 Ukrainian drones had been downed in a similar assault, reflecting an ongoing cycle of aerial confrontations as both sides continue to deny targeting civilians despite the heavy toll of the war.
