On Sunday (18 August), Ukrainian forces successfully struck and damaged a third strategic bridge over the River Seym in Russia’s Kursk region. This latest attack is part of Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to disrupt Russian supply lines and impede the movement of Russian troops opposing Ukrainian advances.

The targeted bridge joins two other crucial bridges in the area that have either been destroyed or severely damaged, impacting Russia’s logistics in the region.

The damage comes as Russia retaliated by launching its third ballistic missile attack on Kyiv this month. However, preliminary reports indicate that all the missiles were intercepted and destroyed before reaching their intended targets.

Western military analysts have highlighted the significance of the bridges in supporting Russian forces, with two of the three key bridges now rendered inoperable.

In addition to the bridge attacks, Ukraine’s air defense units successfully countered a series of Russian air assaults overnight. Ukrainian forces downed all 11 drones launched by Moscow, which were aimed at various Ukrainian regions including Mykolaiv, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Donetsk.

The successful interception of these drones underscores the effectiveness of Ukraine’s air defense systems in protecting its territory amid ongoing conflict.
