Belarus has made it illegal for citizens facing “political charges,” as well as top politicians and law enforcement officers, to travel overseas.
The law, which was made public on May 16, applies immediately to top officials and law enforcement officers and will take effect in December for anyone facing charges of ignoring police orders, violating regulations for staging public events, and other comparable offenses.
Persons whose trip abroad “contradicts the country’s national security” are likewise barred from leaving Belarus under the law.
