According to the reports on Monday (25 November), Suspected armed herdsmen launched deadly attacks on Benue State’s Kastina-Ala and Logo Local Government Areas (LGAs), killing at least 30 people over two days. The assaults began early Sunday morning (24 November) when over 300 heavily armed men invaded the Azege settlement and nearby areas in the Tombo Council Ward of Logo LGA. Eyewitnesses noted that the attackers appeared to be from outside Nigeria, suggesting they were hired militias.
The invaders overwhelmed local security forces with their numbers and sophisticated weaponry, causing widespread casualties and destruction. A military jet was eventually deployed to subdue the attackers, forcing them to retreat. Community leaders reported over 20 bodies recovered in Logo LGA alone, with ongoing searches for missing persons.
On Monday (25 November), armed herdsmen targeted Adabo village and Tse Gwebe settlement in Utange Council Ward of Shitile, Katsina-Ala LGA, killing at least 10 people. The attackers looted properties and left the area before security forces could repel them. Local officials confirmed that valuables were destroyed, and the violence displaced residents.
Benue State remains under severe security threat as authorities mobilize additional forces to restore order. While local government leaders reported restoring peace in some areas, the region continues to grapple with the aftermath of the attacks, including the displacement of families and rebuilding efforts. Police confirmed the incidents, noting five bodies recovered in Logo LGA, though the death toll is expected to rise.
