The Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, has taken responsibility for a bomb attack that occurred in Tel Aviv on the night (local time) of Sunday (18 August). The group confirmed in a statement that the attack was a joint operation with the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
The explosion took place near a synagogue, leading to the death of the suspected assailant, who was discovered inside a truck carrying the explosive device.
The blast also injured a passerby, who sustained moderate injuries and was subsequently treated by medical personnel.
Israeli authorities are currently treating the incident as a terror attack and have launched a full investigation. The bombing is seen as part of the ongoing and escalating conflict between Israel and Palestinian groups.
The attack comes in the context of severe violence in the region, where Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have been conducting military operations that have resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 Palestinians, with many more injured.
The ongoing hostilities have intensified tensions, further complicating the already volatile situation in the area.
