According to the reports on Thursday (26 December), the Israeli Air Force recently conducted a precision strike targeting senior Hamas terrorists in Gaza, as confirmed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The operation killed Muhammad Jamil Salman Basous, a senior member of the Gaza City Brigade’s engineering unit, who was involved in supplying explosives and storing explosive materials. Additionally, Muhammad Kamal Muhammad Al-Haj, a commander in the Nukhba company of the Zeitoun Battalion, was killed for his role in coordinating sniper attacks against IDF forces. Mahmoud Jamil Salman Basous, a Hamas platoon commander and brother of Muhammad Jamil, was also eliminated in the strike.
The Israeli military took numerous precautions to reduce civilian casualties during the operation. The IDF used precise munitions, aerial surveillance, and gathered intelligence to ensure the accuracy of the strike. This strategy was part of a broader effort to target Hamas infrastructure and eliminate key militants while minimizing harm to the civilian population in Gaza.
In a separate operation, the IDF carried out a targeted strike on a vehicle carrying Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists in the Nuseirat area of central Gaza. This was part of ongoing military actions aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and infrastructure in the region. On the same day, Israeli forces in southern and central Gaza also destroyed underground terrorist infrastructure, including tunnels used for attacks by Hamas.
Meanwhile, reports from Palestinian news sources highlighted the deaths of five journalists in a separate incident near al-Awda Hospital. Despite the escalation of violence, the IDF emphasized the use of precise military strategies and the involvement of specialized units, such as the Combat Engineering Corps’ Yahalom unit, which successfully destroyed two long Hamas attack tunnels in southern Gaza.
