The daily detection of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra has doubled over the past 24 hours, and the health authorities in Mumbai are on high alert.
The recombinant subvariant XBB 1. 16 is thought to be the cause of 60% of all instances. In Maharashtra, the novel subvariant has been identified in about 230 cases.
Of the 230 instances, 151 came from Pune, 24 from Aurangabad, 23 from Thane, 11 from Kolhapur, 8 from Amravati, and 1 from each Mumbai and Raigad.
In Maharashtra, 450 instances were reported earlier on Tuesday (28 March), the most since October 22.
