According to the reports on Monday (23 December), Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have intensified, with four people killed in two separate attacks on the al-Mawasi area, designated as a “safe zone.” These strikes occurred shortly after another attack in the same area that claimed at least seven lives. Rescue operations are ongoing, with emergency teams working to locate survivors amidst the devastation.
The escalation has drawn widespread condemnation from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Its head expressed alarm at the rising civilian toll and highlighted the increasingly dire conditions in Gaza. Attacks on civilian infrastructure, including schools and hospitals, have become a recurring and troubling feature of the conflict.
The destruction of essential facilities has exacerbated Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, leaving residents without adequate shelter, medical care, or access to basic services. The UNRWA chief emphasized the need for immediate international attention and action to halt the violence and prevent further loss of life.
This surge in airstrikes reflects the broader intensification of hostilities in the region, raising fears of a worsening humanitarian disaster. Calls for accountability and adherence to international law have grown louder, but the situation on the ground remains dire, with no signs of de-escalation in sight.
