The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security, in collaboration with the FBI and other U.S. agencies, has issued a joint advisory regarding increased attacks from “Truebot” malware.
According to the July 6 alert, hackers are exploiting a vulnerability in security software to gain access to computer networks in Canada and the United States in order to steal sensitive data for financial benefit.
According to the business behind the hacked software, Netwrix Auditor is used by over 7,000 organizations, including clients in the insurance, financial, healthcare, and legal sectors.
Netwrix, based in Texas, is recommending clients upgrade the software and disable workstations running it from the internet.
