According to the reports on Wednesday (26 March), Donald Trump stated that Vladimir Putin appears to be hesitating in ending the war in Ukraine. He suggested that Russia may want peace but is dragging its feet at a crucial moment. Trump made these remarks while speaking to Newsmax on Tuesday night (25 March, local time).
Earlier that day, the White House announced a ceasefire deal between Ukraine and Russia to protect ships in the Black Sea. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed Ukraine’s immediate compliance with the agreement. However, Russia insisted that the ceasefire would only take effect once certain conditions were met.
One of Russia’s demands includes the lifting of some sanctions before fully implementing the ceasefire. Zelensky criticized Putin’s approach, calling it another example of his manipulation tactics. This disagreement raised doubts about how soon the ceasefire would take effect.
Trump compared Russia’s hesitation to his own experience with real estate negotiations. He explained that sometimes, people delay signing a deal to stay in control of the situation. He implied that Putin might be doing the same, reluctant to commit fully while keeping his options open.
