Two terrorists were shot dead during an ongoing anti-terror operation at Khandara Top in J&K’s Kathua district. The operation, led by a joint team of the Army’s Rising Star Corps and J&K Police, began after receiving intelligence about terrorist activity in the area. As the security forces approached a suspected hideout, the terrorists opened fire, sparking an intense firefight.
The operation took place amid heightened security in the union territory, with assembly elections scheduled from September 18 to October 1. The Jammu region has witnessed a surge in terrorist attacks, leading to the deaths of 15 security personnel since May 4. Security forces maintain a strong presence across the region to prevent further incidents.
Earlier on Wednesday, Pakistan violated the ceasefire along the international border in Jammu’s Akhnoor sector, injuring a BSF trooper in a pre-dawn attack. The Pakistani forces fired unprovoked at forward locations around 2:35 a.m., prompting the BSF to retaliate effectively.
The Khandara Top operation is ongoing, as security forces remain vigilant. Army officials confirmed that operations will continue until the area is fully secured. The incident underscores the volatile security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, where both terrorist threats and cross-border hostilities persist.
