Security arrangements have been significantly strengthened in Doda and Kishtwar, two mountainous districts in Jammu and Kashmir, ahead of upcoming elections. These districts, which were once relatively peaceful compared to other parts of Jammu, have seen a surge in terror-related activities in recent months, prompting security forces to take extra precautions to ensure the safety of polling stations in remote areas.
Recently, an encounter in the Chhatroo area of Kishtwar resulted in the death of two Army soldiers. Acting on intelligence, security forces launched a search operation in the forest, but the militants ambushed the team, leading to casualties. Two other soldiers were also injured during the incident, reflecting the growing danger in the region.
Authorities have been on high alert, recognizing the intent of anti-national elements to disrupt the polling process. According to a senior police official, militants aim to send a message to the international community by causing instability during the elections, which is why the presence of ultras in the Doda-Kishtwar belt has raised serious concerns.
Despite these threats, security forces are determined to secure the area and prevent further violence. Efforts to restore peace and maintain order during the elections are being intensified to counter the activities of militants and ensure a smooth voting process in these troubled districts.
