According to the reports on Friday (2 May), Pakistani troops opened unprovoked fire on Indian positions across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on the night of May 1–2. The firing targeted multiple districts, including Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Naushera, and Akhnoor. This marks the eighth consecutive day of ceasefire violations by Pakistan, according to the Indian Army.
The Indian Army responded to the firing, with officials stating that such aggression poses a direct threat to the ceasefire agreement between the two nations. Earlier instances of shooting were reported in the border districts of Kupwara, Poonch, and Rajouri, before spreading to Baramulla. These incidents have raised concerns over the stability along the heavily militarized border.
Tensions between India and Pakistan have sharply increased following a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley, where Pakistan-backed militants killed 26 tourists. In response, India has implemented a series of measures against Pakistan, including diplomatic and security actions aimed at curbing further hostilities.
Pakistan has retaliated by closing its airspace to Indian airlines and suspending all trade with India. It also issued a stern warning that any move by India to divert water from the Indus Water Treaty would be treated as an act of war. Despite a recent DGMO-level conversation between both countries, Pakistan continues its aggressive posture, prompting India to issue fresh warnings.
