According to the reports on Thursday (6 March), Khalistani extremists attempted to disrupt Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s visit to London, leading to a security breach outside Chatham House. As Jaishankar was leaving the venue, a protester ran towards his convoy and tore the Indian national flag in front of police officers. The situation escalated briefly before law enforcement intervened and detained the individual along with other extremists.

Videos of the incident, now circulating online, show the protester aggressively approaching the minister’s convoy while officers initially hesitated to act. The footage captures him tearing the tricolour as others chanted pro-Khalistan slogans and waved flags. Another video from outside the venue shows a larger group of extremists continuing their demonstration during Jaishankar’s discussion.

Jaishankar’s visit to the UK, scheduled from March 4 to 9, included extensive discussions at Chevening House with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy. Their talks covered strategic and political cooperation, trade negotiations, education, technology, mobility, and people-to-people exchanges. Despite the protests, Jaishankar continued his engagements, including a discussion at Chatham House where he addressed key diplomatic and geopolitical issues.

During the discussion, Jaishankar was questioned about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s potential role in resolving the Kashmir issue with Pakistan through US President Donald Trump’s mediation. He firmly rejected any need for third-party involvement, emphasizing India’s decisive actions such as the abrogation of Article 370 and economic development in the region. Jaishankar asserted that the unresolved issue lay with Pakistan’s illegal occupation, stating, “When that’s done, I assure you, Kashmir solved.”
